Life in Dubai

Almost unheard of a few years ago, Dubai has rapidly become a byword for glamour, opulence and opportunity.

But despite all the talk of man-made islands and seven star hotels, to outsiders much of what goes on in Dubai is still shrouded in mystery.

Like New York in the 19th and 20th centuries, in a period of rapid expansion, there are fortunes to be made and, for the ill-prepared, dreams to be shattered.

Dubai is an amazing place and it offers one of the highest standards of living in the world, but living in Dubai is not for everyone – public transport is poor, but improving and all the usual utilities are available, with the exception of mains gas.
