Shopping

Unsurprisingly, for a city that hosts an annual shopping festival, Dubai is a shopper’s dream.

It is home to over 5,000 retail outlets and is served by several large shopping malls, such as the Deira City Centre, BurJuman, Mall of the Emirates and Ibn Battuta Mall.

Dubai’s malls fall under the administrative umbrella of the Dubai Shopping Malls Group (DSMG)

The Dubai Mall, the largest shopping mall in the world (if measured by total rather than leasable area), was recently completed and opened its doors in November 2008. Featuring 1,200 stores and a hotel, theme park, aquarium and ice rink, the project cost a total of 20 billion dollars.

In addition to these modern, air-conditioned conveniences, shoppers can also enjoy a bit of retail therapy at one of the city’s traditional souks.
