Animals, birds, plants, flowers and trees of Dubai
Flowers, plants and trees
The sandy desert surrounding Dubai is host to wild grasses and date palm trees. In the sabkha plains to the east of Dubai desert hyacinths grow, and acacia and ghaf trees grow in the flat plains near the Western Al Hajar Mountains. Several indigenous trees such as the date palm and neem grow in Dubai’s natural parks alongside imports like the eucalyptus tree.
Birds and animals
Dubai is on the migration path between Europe, Asia and Africa, and more than 320 migratory birds pass through the emirate in spring and autumn.
The waters of Dubai are home to more than three hundred species of fish, including the hammour.
The striped hyena, desert fox, falcon, Arabian oryx, houbara bustard and caracal are all common in Dubai’s desert.
