The Government of Dubai

As in the USA, the emirates share a common military, political, legal and economic system but individual emirates within the UAE, like American states, have control over their own law enforcement and local facilities.

Like Abu Dhabi, Dubai, due to its population size and wealth, possesses the legislative power of veto over critical matters of national importance.

The Dubai Municipality, which performs the functions of a city or county council, was established in 1954 by the ruler of Dubai at that time, Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum.

The Municipality, which is chaired by the deputy ruler of Dubai, takes responsibility for city planning, roads, the environment, public services and upkeep of local facilities.
