Dubai before Islam
Little is known of the culture of the south-east Arabian Peninsula prior to Islam as there was no written culture, but many ancient towns in the area were used as trading centres between the Eastern and Western worlds.
Prior to Islam the people in this area worshiped the god Bajir.
The Byzantine and Sassanian empires were the great powers of this era. The Sassanians controlled much of the region, but once Islam spread to the area the Umayyad Caliph, of the eastern Islamic world, invaded south-east Arabia and drove them out.
